Size 7 & Teen Diapers

Small Adult Diapers for Big Kids and Young Adults

Youth diapers are extra small adult diapers used by children and teens through their growing years. While people often simply look for size 7 diapers, youth diapers actually cover a wide range of children, often adjustable for children 2 - 18 years old, with waist sizes ranging between 15” to 31” or 38 cm to 78 cm. This wide range includes many sizes in addition to the popular size seven diaper and ensures that no matter what age you are, there is a diaper that will fit.

The following are some of the most common causes for older child and teen diaper use:

  • Bedwetting / Enuresis - Night-time toilet training is something that is dreaded by most parents of young children, and for good reason; a large percentage of children will never fully master the difficult skills required to remain dry all night, every night. It is therefore understandable that there are countless youths who suffer from occasional bedwetting or even total enuresis (nighttime incontinence). Bedwetting diapers are available for children of all ages.
  • Severe Urinary Incontinence - Incontinence is not unique to the elderly. In fact, since women are twice as likely as men to suffer from incontinence, young women may be more prone to urinary incontinence issues than older men. With 20% - 30% of young women, plus many more young men, suffering from urinary incontinence, the demand for youth diapers is increasing and some incontinence brands, including Prevail, Attends and Tena, have specially designed youth diapers that are popular among young adults seeking leakage protection throughout the day and night.
  • Bowel Incontinence - Like adults, younger individuals who suffer from bowel incontinence are generally advised to use teenager diapers or diapers for older children to ensure reliable leakage protection.
  • Disability - Older children and teenagers who are severely handicapped may require the use of diapers with tabs. This is especially true for users who will be changed by caregivers, since it is easier to change diapers with tabs on someone else than to change pull up underwear.
  • Bedridden Youth - Another indication for youth diapers is for bedridden children and teens, including temporarily bedridden individuals such as post-op patients, who are unable to leave bed to relieve themselves. However, keep in mind that young patients who are only partially bedridden or even fully bedridden but somewhat mobile and fully cognizant may prefer using a bedside commode or bedpan whenever possible.
  • Special Needs - Mentally impaired children who cannot reliably make it to the bathroom in time may require diapers to contain inevitable leaks and accidents. Like those with physical disabilities, mentally handiapped youths such as autistic children who are cared for by a caregiver will do best with special needs diapers which, unlike underwear, are equipped with tabs and therefore do not require the removal of pants during each diaper changing.

Youth Diapers for Active and Independent Users

The main consideration of adult diapers vs. pull up underwear is who will be doing the changes. While incontinence underwear provide the dignity of being similar to normal underwear, only diapers can be changed without the user removing his/her pants. Because of this convenience, caregivers generally prefer using diapers for their patients. It will aslo make a big diference for people who are in a wheelchair.

However, for young adults with full mobility and independence, a diaper with tabs may be preferred despite the enhanced dignity and easier initial donning offered by underwear. This is especially true for older children or teens who wear diapers during the day, when soiled undergarment changes are significantly quicker and easier when the user is not required to remove their pants. Although disposable incontinence underwear are often designed to rip down the sides to facilitate easy removal, new pairs cannot be donned without removing one’s pants. For this reason, teenagers or petite adults who are capable of donning tab-style diapers can save time and effort by learning to self-don diapers for daytime protection use.
